A summary of CHANGWON WORLD CUP As of 29th of April, the ISSF World Cup in Changwon closed at Changwon International Shooting range with the final event, the skeet men. The ISSF World Cup in Changwon was held from the 20th of April to 30th of April. A total of 1,302 people including athletes and officials from 70 countries around the world visited Changwon. A total of 876 athletes competed in 15 senior and junior Olympic events (5 rifle events, 5 pistol events and 5 shotgun events). According to the final entry, more than 506 people including athletes and officials have registered to participate in this World Cup. It is the biggest entry ever in the history of any World Cup events in Korea. Changwon city was looking forward to letting them experience Changwon's attractions and well-equipped infrastructure.
The Organizing Committee considers World cup as an important pre-test event for the upcoming 52ND WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. Every 43 staff member of the Organizing Committee of the WCH worked in every field such as transportation, accommodation, entry registration, issuing ID cards, VIP protocol and immigration & custom services. Every staff has improved their management and operation skills.
The People's Republic of China finished 1st in the medal standing with a total of seven medals, four golds, two silvers and one bronze.
The Russian Federation followed in 2nd place with three gold and two silver medals, while the United States of America finished in 3rd position with two golds and one bronze in the final two days of competition.
Most importantly, the Republic of Korea is ranked 6th place with one gold and one bronze medal.
This World Cup was very fruitful when it comes to the records. Five new World Records were set in Changwon. Kimberly Rhode of the United States of America hit 58 targets in the Skeet Women event. Ji Xiaojing and Wu Jiayu of the People’s Republic of China scored 487.7 points in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event. Alexander Dryagin of the Russian Federation scored 251.2 points in the 10m Air Rifle Men event. Zhao Ruozhu of the People’s Republic of China scored 252.4 points in the 10m Air Rifle Women event. The Korean shooter, Kim Jun Hong shattered the world record in the final 25M Rapid Fire Pistol Men with a 38 hits.
ISSF officials said, the Changwon international shooting range minimizes the traffic line for athletes with scientific design and through the regular checks by the technical advisory from the technical delegates. The Changwon international shooting range is equipped with athlete friendly facilities and equipment
It leads the improvement of the every athlete's records. Furthermore, every shooting range is equipped with the electronic targeting system. It allows the real time records so spectators easily follow the game. Again, it was the biggest entry ever in the history of any World Cup events in Korea. It affected local economy a lot. Direct economic impact is calculated about 1.6 million dollars. This figure was counted in consideration of the sales volumes in local department stores, average of staying days, and the average of spending and on.
It increased the profit of local restaurants, shopping malls and hotels.
In addition to that, more than 300,000 people around the world watched the final events through the ISSF official website, Facebook, etc. Many visitors would look forward to the next WCH hosting city.
It will have more positive effects including economic impact.
Notably, the Changwon city government specially designed a main road to the International Shooting Range by tearing down walls near the road and installing shotgun shooting shaped street lights and named the road to the shooting range, "the Metasequoia Road."
Moreover, many citizens voluntarily participated in parking their cars in other places to improve the traffic.
The mayor of Changwon city, Ahn Sang Su, said, “Thanks to the effort of every staff and related organization’s support, we were able to finish this event successfully without any accident. As the mayor, I really appreciate your efforts." And he added, “Please prepare well to host upcoming WCH successfully to gain recognition Changwon as one of the best shooting sports place around the world and to increase local economic growth.
The Changwon city government gave a chance to 3,900 citizens to experience shooting sports free of charge at the Tourist Shooting Range. Through this event, many citizens show their interest in shooting sports and the WCH.
