ISSF‘s Shooting Events

The shooting sports officially recognized by the ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) consists of a total of 4 events including rifle, pistol, shotgun, running target, and each event is more divided by range and position. At the Olympic Games there are a total of 15 shooting events such as the individual and mixed team competitions. At the international events such as The World Shooting Championship Game there also the team competition of 3 members including an individual competition. Olympic games have the qualification rounds and finals. After the qualification round, top 6 or 8 athletes in the individual competition and top 5 or 6 teams in the mixed team competition participate in the finals. The world rankings are determined by the total number of points acquired in the finals. (excluding the scores in the qualification round). If it is not an Olympic Game, only the qualification round is played and the total number of points acquired in the matches determine the rankings. If the junior event is held separated from an adult event, the athletes under 20 years old (based on the year when the events are held) are allowed to participate. The jury members consist of a competition jury who supervises the competition management, a RTS jury who supervises the determination of scores and rankings,a chief of equipment control and a jury of appeal. The competition management is under control of a range officer and shotgun referee.

Qulification system, Tokyo 2020

In accordance with these Qualifying regulations, the table below specifies the number of quota places per event that are available at each Qualifying Competition. The highest placed athletes will obtain one (1) quota place for his/her NOC according to the table below, respecting the maximum number of athletes per NOC specified in paragraph B. Athletes Quota.

Mixed Team:

Mixed Team entries may come from athletes entered in Mixed Team quota places obtained at the 2018 WCH Changwon, KOR and from double starters who are also entered in individual events.

World Ranking:

After the qualification period ends and all member federations/NOCs receive the official List of Quota Places, the ISSF will check each individual Olympic Event World Ranking List (dated 30 April 2020) in the order of the events listed in the distribution table starting with AR60, FR3X40 etc. The highest ranked athlete not yet qualified in any event and provided that the athlete’s NOC does not have a quota place in that specific event, then the athlete will obtain one (1) quota place. These quota places are allocated to the athletes by name. In case there are no eligible athletes in a specific event the quota place will be allocated to the NOC that has no athletes in any Shooting event but has the athlete with the highest MQS result in that event. If there is a tie, the quota will be awarded to the NOC with the higher number of athletes with MQS results in that event. If there is still a tie, the quota will be awarded to the NOC with the highest number of MQS results in that event.
